Junior High 1: Overflowing with God's Love

Updated: Jun 20, 2022

To overflow means that one must be full to the brim in order for the contents to spill out. Here at camp that can be captured in a plethora of ways. From the overflowing of Powerade, coffee cups, or the most pertinent: the overflowing of God’s love.

This year's camp verse reads “May the God of Hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit,” Romans 15:13.

For each camper, the process of getting to overflow may look entirely different. For some, their encounter with God has already happened and they are furthering their faith in Him every day. For others, Barefoot will add the foundational drops to their cup to start the overflowing process. No matter where campers are however, God worked in a numerous amount of ways in our middle school friends this week.

Melina, a junior high camper this week, in particular learned what it means to overflow.

“Overflow is God’s love and He wants us to not only be full, but be overflowing with His love,” Melina said.

Melina’s counselor Elizabeth saw overflow throughout camp as well, not only in her campers, but in all of the Barefoot family.

“I’ve seen overflow in campers through their love and support for each other," Elizabeth said. "They love each other with the love of God. It doesn't end, it's present through the good and bad.”

Another counselor this week saw their campers grow a desire to learn more about God.

“They all have such a different aura to them," Grace, Republic 3 counselor said. "They are hungry for God and ready to learn more about Him and to let Him overflow in them.”

In fact, our guest worship leader, Steventhen Holland performed a song for the campers every day that targeted the feeling of overflow.

In the song “Overflow” by Tasha Cobbs the most repeated lyrics are, “Fill me up, ‘till I overflow. I wanna run over, I wanna run over.”

In the last night of PM worship, as campers continued to sing out those lyrics, they were overflowing with God’s love. Barefoot challenges you to not only be filled with God’s love, but to overflow with it. God created you in His image and likeness and He had His only son die on the cross to save you. His love reaches to all depths of the earth and all you need is to let a little drop start your journey of accepting the abundance of God’s love for you.
