Why take a gap year?

Not a year off, but a year up!

Barefoot Republic Camp is passionate about our vision of building the next generation of Christian leaders through cultivating faith, nurturing community, and forging character. A 9-month discipleship program allows 18-24 year-olds the opportunity to develop much-needed leadership and life skills before taking their next steps in school, work, and family.

A worthy investment

When it comes to gap year programs, the Bridge Program is a place to take time to be really intentional about growing in your faith, to learn how to be ‘in community' with others, and also to learn the basic life skills to have a solid foundation for your future.

Meet Stephen & Olivia Mays

Stephen and Olivia have a combined 25+ years working in youth ministry. Olivia grew up going to camp and worked at Barefoot Republic Camp for 7 years. After some years away helping to plant a church, God brought her and her husband Stephen back to help lead Barefoot's Bridge Program.

They see the Bridge Program as an amazing opportunity for students to dive deeper into their faith, make lifelong friendships, and create memories that will last a lifetime. They are excited to meet new Bridge students and hope that they walk away from the program feeling closer to God and more equipped to serve His people – wherever He leads.

Work Study

Bridge students will work alongside camp staff at Barefoot approximately 15-20 hours per week, which will be used to offset the overall cost of the program to cover part of their tuition expense. This also offers
hands-on experience, can provide lifeguard certification, High Ropes training, leadership development, and is a lot of fun!

As part of the program, you will live with other Bridge students and cook community meals together, as well as attend classes and community-building activities.
